It's getting there,,,,,,,

August 31, 2016

Greetings!!

Well, I did not quite manage to get the rug done yesterday, but it is getting there!  Today I have scheduled to work in the basement.  More cleaning out and organizing.  I think we should have it ready to be fully operational by the 15th of September and then I can get slip and start pouring molds again.  Also, the weather should have cooled off a bit more by then so working in the shop won't seem so bad.

I don't have much more to do on the rug, but not sure what day I will get it finished.  Win is off work today so I take advantage of him being here to help me in the basement.  :-)

I really like how the rug is coming along.  It is a really pretty pattern.

I made use of my yarn bowl that I also sell on etsy.  It works really well and I was able to go a lot faster by rolling the yarn into a ball first and using the bowl.

I like working the blue in.  I think it adds both color and texture to the rug.

One more round, then the edging and work in more blue.  About an hour and a half worth of work.  So it really won't take long.  I just have to squeeze in the time after working in the basement today, LOL.  I will definitely post a final picture when it is done but that might not be until Friday because today and tomorrow will be very busy.

Until next time,,,,,,,

Starting a new rug,,,,,,,,,,

August 30, 2016

Greetings!!

Yesterday I wound up balls of yarn to start a new yarn rug.  This one will be white with blue accents.

I know what you are thinking, "Alice, why do you bother to roll it into balls, isn't it just as easy to crochet it from the skein"?  No, it really isn't.  While working on other yarn projects I realized I was spending about 1/3 of my time turning the skein or untangling a glob of yarn that got messed up when they were making the skein.  It takes me a lot less time in the long run to wind the balls first.  Then I can put them in one of the yarn bowls that I make and practically work non-stop until I need to add a new ball of yarn.  It saves a lot of time in the long run.  And that is good for my bottom line!!

I can just drop a ball of yarn in there, guide it out through a hole and not have to worry.  The yarn will stay in the ball and unwind as I work.  And of course the bowl keeps it from rolling all over my floor and quickly turning into a cat toy, LOL.  It really does allow me to work much more efficiently.  If you are a crocheter you really need to try this method if you have not already.

So, today I am starting the new rug.  I will take pictures to post along the way.  Check back soon to see how things are progressing!!

Until next time,,,,,,,

I'm so excited,,,,,,,,,,,

August 29, 2016

Greetings!!

I'm so excited!!  It is the simple things that make me the happiest.  I have a big smile here.  Figured out something new for this site this morning.  I figured out how to link a page here directly to my etsy shop so now you do not have to look around for a link to the shop, you can simply click on the tab, "Shop at Etsy", at the top of this page and it will take you directly to my etsy shop,  Don't worry, this page will not close down, the etsy shop will open in a new window.  That way, if you want to come back here and read some blog archives you can.  :-)

Eventually, the "crafts" page will go away and those items will be incorporated into the blog.  I will also write about new things I am working on and the plans I am making for the shop.  I am so excited!!

Things are coming along very well.  Even though I have sold some items in other venues, I finally had my first sale on etsy over the weekend.  I am so excited about that!!  Ultimately, my goal is to only sell on etsy, but we do what we have to.

Win and I have been busy cleaning up the basement on his days off and soon I will be able to pour molds again.  Then I will be adding a "paint your own pottery" section to my etsy shop where you can buy unpainted ceramic bisque and paint your own.  Also I plan to take the left over yarns from making yarn rugs and crocheting hat and scarf sets.  I still have polymer clay beads and jewelry to work on yet too.  Ah, it all takes time.  As they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day", LOL

I do hope you will check back often to see what I am working on and what is new in my little corner of the world!

Until next time,,,,,,,,,

A new beginning,,,,,,,,

August 28, 2016

Greetings!!

It is a new beginning for this web site and blog.  I did leave all the past posts regarding genealogy and various subjects in case someone wants to go back and look for something, but times are changing.  My blog will be more geared around my crafts and my etsy shop now.

I will share with you projects in progress, the ups and downs of running a home based craft business, other crafters and whatever comes across my desk that might be interesting, LOL.

I currently have a page that shows crafts.  That will soon be deleted and those items will be moved here to the blog when I take a little time to write about them.

I just finished my first custom order and the customer is very happy with it.  I am always nervous about taking custom orders online because when you are dealing with color those colors can look different from one computer to the next.  So, if the color on your monitor is adjusted slightly different than mine, you will not see the color I see.

I am now back to working on rugs for the etsy shop and hope to have a enough completed soon to start posting them.  The next one I want to work on will be a white and blue yarn rug.  I work both with fabric or yarn.  I have an oval fabric one done and want to get a yarn one done so I have both types represented.

I will be writing about and posting pictures of the yarn rug as I work on it, so please check back!!

Until next time,,,,,,,,,,,

What a productive week,,,,,,,,

August 8, 2016

Greetings!!

Last week was such a productive week.  I just might give myself tomorrow off,,,, but then again, maybe not, LOL.

I finally broke through 2 brick walls on my Parker family genealogy.  I found two of my great-great-aunts and their families.  I am just thrilled!!  I only have one left to find now.  I am afraid she might have died young though, but time will tell.

The first to find was the oldest daughter of Benjamin B Parker, Rosella.  Also spelled Rosella, Rosilia and a few others.  The differences in the spellings made her a challenge to find but once I did things opened up rather quickly.  I even have an email out to her great-great-grandson.  I am hoping to hear back from him soon.

‚ÄčThe second to find was Emma Frances Parker.  She went by Emily a lot and most records show her as Frances Emma, just to add to the confusion, LOL.  She married a fellow from right there in Eldred.  And although I have not found death records or a grave for her I am pretty sure she is buried in the old Eldred Cemetery as she was living in Eldred when she passed and was in fact living almost next door to her father Benjamin.

The one I have left to find is Phebe L Parker.  The last she shows in a census she is only 5 years old.  By the time the next census rolls around in 1870 she is no where to be found,.  I wonder if she died around the time her mother and sister Nancy Jane died in 1861?  It appears there was an out-break of diphtheria during that time frame so it is certainly possible.  I need to keep searching to make sure.

Also during the past week I finally completed the chalkboard signs I had been painting to add to my etsy shop.  This morning I got them all added!!  You can see pictures of them here at this web site by clicking on the "crafts" tab at the top or by going to my etsy shop by clicking HERE  Please let me know what you think!!  I am debating on what I will start on next and that is going to depend on what I think the weather will do.  If it is going to turn super hot again I do not want to be firing the kiln and will work on something else.  But if it is going to stay a bit on the cooler side, (compared to what it has been) then I will probably throw some pottery on the wheel.  Decisions, decisions, LOL.

Until next time,,,,,,,,
