Happy Memorial Day,,,,,,,,

May 30, 2016

This is my great-great-grandfather, Capt. Benjamin Burlin Parker.  He was a Captain in the Union Army during the civil war era.  I do not believe he served during the war itself because his wife and 2 young daughters died in 1861 and he still had young ones at home.  However, it appears he did serve on a local capacity where he trained new recruits.

My great-grandfather did serve during the civil war.  He was in the 143rd Infantry of NY state.  In fact, many generations of Parker men served their country and some paid the ultimate price.  I am proud of my ancestors and I appreciate their sacrifices for our country.

On this memorial day I hope you remember and honor those who have served our country.  Remember also, your ancestors, they helped pave the way for the life you have today.

When I was a young child we spent the holiday weekend cleaning up the old Eldred, NY Cemetery where most of my Parker ancestors are buried.  We trimmed trees and bushes, cut back weeds and mowed the entire cemetery.  It was our way of saying thank you.  We can build a stronger tomorrow by remembering our past.

An update on my leg.  Finally after a month I can put full weight on it again!!  I still have to be very careful going up and down stairs or walking on uneven surfaces, but it is much better.  Thank you so much to all those who prayed!!  It is really appreciated!!

I have been working on my family genealogy a bit while laid up and also been working on chalkboard signs to sell.  Those first two that I showed you are still in progress but have been a learning experience for me.  I have switched over to using paint brushes.  I just cannot seem to control the paint markers like I thought I would.  I guess I have been painting for so long that I am more used to a paint brush.  I think they will be even prettier.  I have three more to start working on today.  I have the patterns I created, traced onto the boards and can just start painting.

I know, it's a holiday why am I working?  Well, Win has to work this morning for a while so I decided to just get a start on these while he is at work.

Anyhow, enjoy your day, be careful and stay safe!!

Until next time,,,,,,,,,,,

Three weeks tomorrow,,,,,,,,

May 18, 2016

It will be three weeks tomorrow since I fell and I am still not getting around as well as I would like.  It is very frustrating as I am not one to just lay down all day.  I have things to do and not being able to do most of them is driving me crazy.  But they say the longer it takes to be able to put weight on it without pain the longer it takes to heal completely and in the meantime you have to be very careful to not re-injure it and add to that time frame.

Even sitting up can be painful.  The back of the leg rests on the seat of the chair and that puts pressure on that muscle.  None the less I try to do a little more each day.  Sometimes I can, most of the time, not so much.  Ugh, life goes on and so will I.

I have a few pictures of what I was doing the day I fell.  I was putting flowers on the porch.  When I tripped and fell I was carrying a fern from the kitchen to the front porch.

And I just realized after all the aggravation I have been through, I don't have any pictures of the ferns, LOL.

During the few times I have sat up for more than just a few minutes I have started working on some chalkboard art.  Using real chalkboards.  Seems like many have decided to make "printables".  They make a design, then instead of doing it on a chalkboard, they print it out and sell that.  Then I guess the buyer has to frame it or mount it on something.  As a consumer, I think I would rather have the chalkboard already done so I can just hang it where I want it.  But I guess time will tell.  I have two in progress right now but still have a lot of work to do to them before I put them up for sale.

Not the best pictures in the world, I snapped them in a hurry, but at least they give you an idea of what I am working on.  I am trying to get some inventory built up before I re-open my etsy store.  I still need to get down the stairs to throw some pottery.  I am going to try today and see if my leg can handle it.  The last time I tried it was not a pretty site and we'll just leave it at that, LOL.

Until next time,,,,,,,

I am sorry I have been MIA for the last week.  I had a bit of an accident in the house about a week and a half ago and got banged up pretty bad.  My left leg has bruises and contusions but the real injury is my right leg.  I severely pulled the hamstring and still cannot put much weight on it.  Even pressure on the back of the leg from sitting in a chair is giving me problems.

Needless to say I have not felt up to sitting at the computer and writing, doing research, or cooking.  I am just now trying to walk on it a bit.  More like carefully hobble around a bit.  They said not to put too much weight on it until I can do it without additional pain.

Most of the time my days are spent with the leg elevated and alternating between heat and ice.  It seems to be helping a little.  Unfortunately, this is going to take time.  It could take several weeks with a 3 to 4 week minimum I am told.  I do not like this.  I have things to do.

I am not sure when I will be back to writing but I am trying very hard to get back just as soon as I can.  I appreciate your patience and understanding!!
